Youngest Generation of PhD Students miss out on Web 2.0 capacity
A recent study titled “Researchers ofTomorrow”, conducted by the British Library over the course of three years, hasindicated that the latest generation of PhD researchers, Generation Y, fail tofully utilise advanced technology such as Web 2.0, in their researchendeavours, as reported by Times Higher Education this week. The study aims to investigate the researchbehaviour of doctoral students born in 1982 – 1994 in comparison with a broadanalysis of the research behaviour of PhD students of all ages. The interimresults have been released to Times Higher Education and demonstrate that manyyoung PhD students fail to make full use of e-research tools, RSS feeds, socialbookmarking, among other tools. The study is an ongoing longitudinalproject and the findings indicated in Time Higher Education represent aninterim result of the surveys conducted.
